1. Discover the location of the jam. 
2. Carefully open the cover of the copy machine and the paper tray to see exactly where the paper is jammed.
3. Pull the page out, the opposite way it is fed into the copier. Pull the jammed sheet out gently. If you tug too hard, the paper may rip.
4. Check for any paper fragments and clean up any torn pieces.
5. Check the roller where the jam occurred to be sure none of the copier parts are loose or broken. The roller should be smooth all the way across with no possible snags.
6. Replace the cover and paper tray and turn the machine back on.
7. Press the button to cancel the paper jam message. This button will vary among copy machines. The display will tell you which button to push.
