How to Fix "Overheats" of 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo

I think there are five reasons which may cause such overheats.

  1. Check the thermostat. Anything stuck in there? It can stick or freeze in the closed position blocking the flow of coolant to your engine. Check the upper radiator hose in it is not convenient to check the thermostat.
  2. Check the cooling system. Is there any leakage? Car needs enough coolant to make itself cool.diagnose as the radiator will be low on fluid and there will probably be a pool of coolant on the floor of your garage.
  3. Check the water pump. Any faulty? As you said, it will splash water whenever you stop the car, I think it is quite possible that the pump has something wrong.
  4. Check the cooling fan. Is yours a electric and mechanical? If yours is a mechanical fan, it will cost you much more time to check the parts.
  5. Check the clogged radiator.Over time the radiator can accumulate deposits of rust and debris. If it has something wrong, the function will not stay right.
