How To Adjust Browser Cache Settings

The temporary internet files folder, also commonly known as the cache, stores a record of your online activity including items you've seen, heard, and downloaded. These items are put in your cache to make internet browsing faster, since your computer can call up some elements or even entire pages from the cache instead of displaying a completely new web page.

Clearing or Adjusting Browser Cache Settings

Clearing your cache will free up some space on your computer and it's a good idea to clear it from time to time. Go to the start menu, choose "settings," then click on the control panel. In the control panel window click internet options. You can also go to tools in your internet browser and click internet options. Under the general tab, in the temporary internet files section, click the delete files button. This will delete all the files currently in your cache. Click "ok" and click "ok" again.

Tips for Adjusting Browser Cache Settings

You can also adjust the internet settings to automatically clear the cache whenever you close your browser. Go to the Advanced tab in the internet options window. In the settings box, scroll down to the section called Security. Click the check box next to the "Empty Temporary files" Folder when browser is closed option. This option does not clear cookies, but will clear your cache of other files every time you close your internet browser. Click "ok" to finish.

Fix Error 678 on Modem Dialing

Dial Up Networking Error 678:

Error 678 generally means that the line is ringing, but the remote system is not answering the call. Check the number being called and verify that the number is correct.
If using an external modem, turn on the speaker to listen to the connection using the toggle switches on the modem chassis. The exact behavior will vary from modem to modem, so check the modem manufacturer’s manual.

Symptoms

Cause
The modem is unable to establish a dial up connection due to certain conditions.
Resolution
  1. Is there a modem handshake sound? If not the telephone access number is probably wrong in some way.
  2. Disable Area Code and Dialing Properties. If the area code and Dialing properties are set incorrectly, this error may results.
  3. Try lowering the fifo buffers, setting the max speed to 57600 in your modems settings.

How to Correct Errors With IE9 & the Blue Screen

Make sure that the problem is not with the web page you are trying to access. Open another browser tab or window, access another web page and see if it loads. If it loads the page, the problem is with the web page you were previously trying to access.
  1. Check for Internet connection problems. If the web browser opens but fails to load web pages, you may be having an intermittent Internet connection. Access the "Resources" section of this article for steps on how to troubleshoot your Internet connection.
  2. Remove temporary Internet files from your browser. Click "Tools," "Internet Options" and then "Delete" under "Browsing History." Click the check boxes for "Cookies," "History," "Form Data," "Preserve Favorites website data," "Temporary Internet Files" and "InPrivate Filtering data." Select "Delete" at the bottom of the window.
  3. Run the "Internet Explorer Troubleshooter." Close all programs in your computer, click "Start," "Control Panel" and then "Find and Fix Problems" under "System and Security." Click "View All" in the task pane on the left side of the window. Select "Internet Explorer Performance" and "Next" and then wait for the troubleshooter to detect and fix problems automatically.
  4. Troubleshoot a blue-screen error. Read the recommended troubleshooting procedures and jot them down so that you can follow them in your computer. If the computer refuses to boot the operating system after a blue-screen error, make sure that the problem is not caused by other underlying problems with your computer.
  5. Boot to either "Safe Mode" or "Last Known Good Configuration" (whichever is available) to load the operating system. If these options are not available, consider reinstalling the operating system.
  6. Recall the last thing you did with your computer before the blue screen error appeared. if you were installing a new hardware devices, downloading or installing a file or software, undo your last action. Remove the downloaded or installed file from the computer or check your hardware installation to ensure that it is not causing the blue screen error.
  7. Restore the computer to an earlier time if you can still boot the operating system after the blue-screen error. Click "Start" and type "System Restore" in the search box. Select "System Restore" from the list of results and select a "Restore Point." Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the system to restore the computer settings.
